The Perfect Party Snack

Gemüsesticks made by Vanillapearl
Gemüsesticks mit Kokos Sesam Kruste und Kurkuma Dip

A little while ago, we received a spontaneous party invitation. It was a potluck party. I looked into my fridge and all I found was a few carrots and some parsnips. What to do with these? I love turning something plain into something extraordinary. I cut them into long strips and blanched them briefly in boiling water. Then I rolled them in flour and eggs and then breaded them with coconut flakes and sesame. In the hot oil, they transformed into crispy veggie sticks. For the dipping sauce, I jazzed up some yogurt with a bit of olive oil, lemon, tumeric, salt and pepper. This party snack was a winner. Everyone was thrilled. Try it! After the party is before the party.

For 4 people you need:

  • veggies of your choice. They should be firm, such as potatoes, parsnips, carrots or celery, about 6-8 pieces
  • approximately 100 g flour
  • 2 eggs
  • about 80g desiccated coconut
  • about 80g sesame seeds
  • vegetable oil
  • salt and pepper

For the dip you need:

  • 200g creamy yogurt
  • juice of half a lemon
  • 1 tsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp turmeric salt
  • freshly ground pepper

Peel the vegetables and cut them into thin strips, about the shape of a french fry. Blanch them for about 3 minutes in boiling salt water. Prepare 3 bowls, 1 for the flour, 1 for the eggs which you`ll want to mix with salt and pepper and one for the coconut sesame breading. Dip the sticks in flour, then in the egg and finally in the coconut sesame mix. Fry them off in hot oil until they turn crispy. Remove excess grease by putting them on paper towels. Mix the ingredients for the dip and have your guests nibble away… Bon Appetit! Yours truly, Christina
